Default Problem with Directx and MW2

So I was playing a game today and randomly mw2 freezes and then my computer rebooted

Everything comes back up and I try to load MW2 and it said MW2 did not stop properly blah blah safemode?

I ran in safemode like a noob and now its stuck in 640x400 resolution, when I try to change it the game closes and a error comes up for DirectX saying "DirectX has encountered a problem, read the manual for more info"

can't seem to fix this, updated drivers and google'd my ass off but problem still

the game is really ugly in 640x400 btw

Edit: finally fixed it, i had to disable everything in msconfig services and startup and no more error

    XIG [Xfire in-game]
locks the DirectX system in all IF [infinity ward] game software.

All you have to do, is close Xfire completely, start your COD software; change your resolution, and restart Xfire afterward.
As a rule of thumb, you should close XFIRE any time you change settings in Infinity ward games; anything that effects the DX engine or has to change rendering will crash the system.
