So, dot's looking to upgrade his GFX card as my system rating is showing my graphics to be the cause of my problems.

Problem, money is an issue, so I doubt i'll be able to get a top-notch graphics card.

So is do ya'll know of anywhere i can get one that will run Source on max details, or tf2 on moderate details?

P.S. I'm not a computer guru, so don't reply in like x=mc squared or what not.

If I recall ATI has a new budget card capable of running DX11, Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100289L Radeon HD 5670 (Redwood) 1GB 128-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card w/ATI Eyefinity - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102869&cm_re=HD_5670-_-14-102-869-_-Product)

If you have Ati stay with a new Ati card same goes with Nvidia. Its hard to go from one to another without a reformat being done. Hope i didn't confuse you. Here... go to device manager and click on display adapter. whats it say ?

Also you may try to OC your processor. I did mine from 3.4 stock up to 4.2 stable and that really helped out my frames. its maxed 299 the whole CSS video stress test.

Once i know what card you have now i can point you in the right direction.

Ok your running a Nvidia card now so you will want to stay with Nvidia. So everything ATI ! throw out the window. IMO Nvidia is much better anyways. The new budget cards out now days will flat out scream if you buy the right one. i need to know more about your machine though.

go to start, Control panel click System: Tell me what Processor you have. It should say AMD or Intel and a Speed. ie 2.6 or 3.0 GHZ. Then i need to know what RAM you have. 1 gig or 2 gigs ect.

See the key is to match your components it saves time and money in the long run. Some people put a 75 dollar card in a 2000 dollar computer and they wonder where they went wrong at. lol

I built my last PC and put the best stuff in it that was available at the time. Then moved to the country and can't even get internet lol. STILL ! But i went balls out on a GFX card and even with a 1000 dollar processer Intel Xtreme quad core 3.2 it couldnt push the Gtx 295s i had. So.... I had to over clock from 3.2 up to 4.6 speed to get it to run all together. Look at a computer like a football team if you will, When one part struggles, They all struggle ! till the fatal crash and burn.

ok enough rambling... get back to me with info dotty.

Dot is this your computer ?

HP Pavilion Slimline s5120Y with the NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE / nForce 430 ????

If so your power supply is going to limit you on what card you get.

If you can, take the side panel off your tower and look at the label on the power supply. I need to know how many Watts it is.

i'm really hoping it doesnt say this:

Model# DPS 220AB-2 A, REV ( Kanji letters): 00F
INPUT 100~127V, 6A, 200~240V, 3A
OUTPUT 220W Max. <----------------------------

3.3V-- / 16A +5.08--- /15A +12V--- /16A
-12V --- /0.3A +5.08Vsb --- / 2A

Let me know what you come up with.

Here is a link to a general power supply label so you know what your looking for.

take a look at this :

This is what the guys in the forum are suggesting:

Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100253HDMI Radeon HD 4650 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Low Profile Ready Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102829)
or
Newegg.com - Galaxy 96GFF6VIFCXU GeForce 9600 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Low Profile Ready Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162016)

And the guy is suggesting the ATI card, and it's looking like a winner at $70 lol

What you think Pen.

You could give it a shot, i think it would be much better than what you have now. I hate to see you go from Nvidia to Ati tho. Sometimes.... not always people run into problems when they swap brands.

Go for it and if you can back up your computer before you install. i think it will work out great for you. Those slim line Pcs are limited to what gfx cards people can run.

Hold up!!

look here.... This your rig right ?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I would rather see you go with this card if you can swing it... It has more to offer and there is a 20$ mail in rebate. Also your not mixing you would be staying with Nvidia

Its a 1Gig card too !! Huge PLUS

With the help of my brother, i was able to swap the big bracket from card out to a low profile bracket (that shipped with the card and i didnt know), which fit perfectly into my case! I done installed it, updated my drivers and what not, and i checked my pc rating which went from 3.0 to 5.2. All from the graphics changing. I went in game, and got 100-150 steady on office with cranked video settings. Removed my filthy fpsbooster and now the gaming looks great!

-dotty
p.s. TF2 ran just as great with cranked settings.
p.s.2 thanks for the help pen
